Description of key information

Estimated Tetrabutane log Koc is 7.7.

The Henry's law constant at 25 °C for 4 representative C16 isomers (linear to extremely branched) of the UVCB substance tetrabutane are 2.9x10exp6 Pa m3/mol (bond method)  respective 5.4x10exp6 - 1.6x10exp7 Pa m3/mol (group method).

According to the equilibrium distribution model (Mackay Level I) ≥ 99.5% of the C16-tetrabutane, which is a fraction of the registered substance, discharged into the environment, is distributed in the environmental compartement air, after equilibrium has been reached. (Considered are the environmental compartements air, water, soil, sediment, suspended sediment and biota.)

According to Mackay III, persistence times for the environment were calculated. For the worst case scenario "all emissions to water" the highest environmental persistence time is 581 hours for 3,4,5,6,7,8-hexamethyldecane. "All emissions to water" is also the szenario with the highest persistence time for 3-methyl, 4-ethyl, methyl, 5-ethyl, methyl, 6-methyl, octane and 3,4,5,6,7,8-hexamethyldecane and 5-ethyl-6-propylundecane.

For hexadecane, "all emission to soil" is the scenario with the highest persistence time of 321 hours.

Other scenarios considered are "all emissions to air" "equal emissions to air, water, soil" as well as all emissions to two compartements.
