N3/N4-amine is classified and labeled as corrosive to the skin and eyes (cat. 1A, R35) as well as a skin and respiratory sensitiser (cat. 1A and 1B, R42/43).

Based on the available data without reliable quantitative information, it is not possible to derive long or short term DNELs. Hence, it is also not possible to compare the estimated exposure obtained for each ES in section 9 below using EasyTRA (ECETOC TRA) with a threshold.Only specialized workers are involved in the production and handling of the substance, which are protected by the nature of the technical installations, use of strictly controlled procedures as well as sealed pipelines and reactors. Workers involved in sampling and transfer of materials are trained in the procedures and protective equipment is intended to cope with the worst case scenario, in order to exclude exposure and risks. Protective clothing and respiratory equipment are required in cases where potential exposure can occur. Aqualitative risk characterisation was therefore performed in accordance to the REACH guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Part E: Risk Characterisation. In order to guarantee "adequately control of risks", it is necessary to stipulate risk management measures that prevent any exposure.

 

Procedural and control technologies are used to minimise residual emissions/exposure as well as qualitative risk considerations:

Operational and technical conditions and measures affecting and controlling workers exposure, such as personal protective equipment, goggles, chemically resistant gloves, and respiratory protection were used, where potential exposure may occur.

Workers should receive a task specific training on how to use the protective equipment and the correct use of it may need to be supervised. Besides that, workers should be warned to avoid skin and eye contact, to wash off any skin contamination immediately and to report skin/eye problems that may develop. Taking these measures into account, the risk of exposure is considered to be very low.
