Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to algae, no toxic effects occur within the range of water solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of the test substance to algae was determined in a guideline study in compliance with OECD 201 and under GLP (RCC Ltd. 2005). Due to the low solubility of the test substance a supersaturated solution has been tested. The growth rate of the algae species Desmodesmus subspicatus was investigated.

The mean algal cell density in the test medium was at all counting dates nearly identical with that in the parallel control cultures. The test substance had no inhibitory effect on the growth (cell density) of Desmodesmus subspicatus after the exposure period of 72 hours at the loading rate of 100 mg/L (mean measured 26.4 µg/L). No acute toxic effects occurred within the range of water solubility. Thus, the loading rate of 100 mg/L (mean measured 26.4 µg/L) was determined as the 72-hour NOEC. The EC50 and the LOEC are determined to be above 100 mg/L (loading rate) .
