Description of key information

The acute toxicity of Reactive Yellow F01-0555 was assessed with an acute immobilisation test on Daphnia magna, over an exposure period of 48 hours in a static test. Toxic effects were not observed during the preliminary concentration range-finding test therefore a limit test was performed in the main experiment using only one test concentration (100 mg/L nominal) and one control group. Test concentration was analytically determined at the start and at the end of the experiment. The measured concentration was 103.4 mg/L at the start and 104.6 mg/L at the end of the test. As the measured concentration deviated not more than 20 per cent from the nominal value during the experiment, the biological results are based on the nominal concentration. Based on the results of this study, the test item Reactive Yellow F01-055 had no toxic effect on daphnids at up to at least 100 mg/L nominal. In a Daphnia magna reproduction test, the substance showed a NOEC (reproduction) of 1.195 mg/L. The substance is not considered to be chronically toxic to aquatic invertebrates.

The effect of Reactive Yellow F01-0555 test item was assessed on algal growth using the unicellular green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata over an exposure period of 72 hours in a modified test system. The results of this experiment showed that there was no toxic effect on the growth of the alga (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata). At 50 and 100 mg/mL, a statistically significant effect was calculated, however, this effect (inhibition: µ = 2.1%, Y = 7.3%) is not biologically significant, but is due to the biological variability of the test system. The EC50 value (growth rate) was > 100 mg/L and the EC50 value (biomass) was > 100 mg/L).

An acute fish toxicity test of Reactive Yellow F01-0555 was conducted according to OECD Guidelines for the Testing of Chemicals, 203 Fish Acute Toxicity Test. The test results showed that the 96h LC50 of the test substance Reactive Yellow F01-0555 to Gobiocypris rarus was higher than 223 mg/L (arithmetic mean of measured concentration).
