Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for 1,2,3 -propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate (CAS 63705-03-3) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2012).

Persistence

1,2,3-propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate (CAS 63705-03-3) is readily biodegradable based on one study according to OECD 301B (79% after 28 d; CO2 evolution). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).

Bioaccumulation

The potential for bioaccumulation of 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate (CAS 63705-03-3) is assumed to be low based on calculations with BCFBAF v3.01. When including biotransformation rate constants BCF/BAF values of 0.89 – 36.61 L/kg and 0.89 – 36.75 L/kg (Arnot-Gobas estimate, including biotransformation, upper trophic)indicate low bioaccumulation potential in organisms (all well below 2000 L/kg). Moreover, should 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate be taken up by fish during the process of digestion and absorption in the intestinal tissue, aliphatic esters like1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate are expected to be initially metabolized via enzymatic hydrolysis to the corresponding free fatty acids and the free fatty alcohols.Taking all these information into account, it can be concluded that the bioaccumulation potential of1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate is low. Thus, the test substance is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).

Toxicity

All available aquatic data for 1,2,3-Propanetriol, homopolymer, diisooctadecanoate (CAS 63705-03-3), are above the trigger value of 0.1 mg/L. Thus, the screening criteria set out in Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2012) are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
