Description of key information

Study according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008: test method A.17

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

In a study conducted according to EU method A17, the maximum burning rate of the mixtures of sodium selenite and cellulose 5 wt% (1.12 mm/s) was lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate 55 wt% (1.69 mm/s). Due to the fact that the mixture of the test item with cellulose burned slower compared to the reference mixture, or the flame extinguished before the pre-burning phase was finished, it was concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Sodium selenite had no oxidizing properties in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.17.
