Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the toxicity of 2-ethylhexanol nonanoate (CAS 59587-44-9) to aquatic microorganisms are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the structurally similar substance Octyl octanoate (CAS 2306-88-9) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogu juestification section 13.
The toxicity of octyl octanoate (CAS No. 2306-88-9) to activated sludge microorganisms was tested according to OECD Guideline 209 (Hammer, 2013). Activated sludge was exposed to the test substance in a static system for 3 hours, at nominal concentrations of 1000, 500, 250, 125 and 62.5 mg/L. No toxicity was observed at any of the tested concentrations, and the EC10 was determined to be > 1000 mg/L. Thus, based on the above mentioned result, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint summary 6.1 it can be concluded that no toxicological effects on microroganisms expected up to the limit of water solubility for 2-ethylhexanol nonanoate (CAS 59587-44-9).
