Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Ready biodegradability tests for several alkyl sulfates are available. Based on the results of screening tests for biodegradation in water it can be concluded that alkyl sulfates with carbon chain length of C8-C18 are readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD SIDS 2007).

Since no reliable biodegradability tests are available for C8-10AS Na (CAS 85338-42-7), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to another structurally related category members was conducted. Read-across data on the following category members were used: C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0) and C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4). Two studies confirming ready biodegradation of C10AS Na (CAS 142-87-0) performed according to OECD 301 D guideline and OECD 301 E guideline are available. Ready biodegradation of C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) was tested in several studies: a GLP test according to OECD 301 B guideline (Neven 1994), 301 D guideline (GLP - Marks 1991, non-GLP - Richterich and Mühlberg 2001) and a non-GLP study according to OECD 301 E (Sanchez Leal 1991). C8AS Na (CAS 142-31-4) is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

Due to structural and property similarities with the tested category members it can be concluded that C8-10AS Na (CAS 85338-42-7) is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.
