As no valid study is available for assessing the toxicity to soil macroorganisms of Triisotridecyl benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate (CAS No. 72361-35-4), in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related category member 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters (CAS No. 90218-76-1) was conducted. The read across is justified due to a) the structural similarity of the category members and b) similar physico-chemical properties resulting in a similar environmental fate and ecotoxicity profile.Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13.

The study with 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters (CAS No. 90218-76-1) was performed under GLP and according to EU method C.8 using the earthworm Eisenia foetida as test organism (Scholz, 1994). This limit test performed at a concentration of 1,000 mg/kg dry soil was conducted using artificial soil. No mortality was observed in the control and the treatment during the test period of 14 days. Hence, the 14 d-LC 50 is determined to be > 1,000 mg/kg dry soil.

Thus, based on the above mentioned results, and due to the structural similarities and a consistent ecotoxicological/environmental fate profile of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint summary in IUCLID chapter 6.1, it can be concluded that no acute toxicity of Triisotridecyl benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate (CAS No. 72361-35-4) to soil macroorganisms is expected.
