Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
4.15 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
2 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity test to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria (Scheerbaum_2006) performed according to OECD 201 and GLP was rated with RL=1 (reliable without restrictions) and used as a key study. The results indicate that SymWhite 377 inhibits the growth of the freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus at geometrical mean measured test item concentrations >= 2.00 mg/L (biomass growth) and >= 4.38 mg/L (growth rate). The EC50-values with 95 % confidence intervals for inhibition of biomass growth (EbC50) and specific growth rate (ErC50) after 72 h were 2.42 (2.35 – 2.50) and 4.15 (4.00 – 4.30) mg/L, respectively. All effect levels are given based on geometrical mean measured concentrations of the test item SymWhite 377.
