Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
2 613 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The substance does not undergo hydrolysis at 50°C at pH 4 and 7 but was subject to slight hydrolysis at pH 9 in the preliminary test. In the advanced test, the degradation of the test item at pH 9 was < 10 % for 20 °C and > 10 % for 30 and 50 °C (29 % and 93 %, respectively). With regard to the guideline on hydrolysis the results indicated a half life of > 1 year for the SymWhite 377 at pH 4 and pH 7 (25 °C). At pH 9 a half life between 4609 hours at 20°C and 176.6 hours at 50°C was determined and calculated using Arrhenius equation, respectively.

Data on hydrolysis should only be considered for classification purposes if the longest half life determined within the pH range 4 -9 is shorter than 16 days. This is not the case for SymWhite 377 at ambient temperature between 20 -25°C. Furthermore, hydrolysis data were not considered for C&L since it cannot be satisfactorily demonstrated that the hydrolysis products formed do not fulfil the criteria for C&L for the aquatic environment (regulation (EC) 1272/2008).
