Description of key information

The test substance is with high probability acutely not harmful to algae. No toxic effects occur within the range of water solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP algae growth inhibition test according to OECD guideline 201 with water-accommodated fractions (WAFs) and Selenastrum capricornutum has been conducted (NOTOX 2001d). The EC50 (based on growth rate) was beyond the range tested (> 100 mg/L nominal) and the measured EC10 (based on growth rate) was determined to be 35 mg/L nominal. The EC10 exceeds the water solubility of 0.2 mg/L by far. The EC50 and the EC10 based on biomass also exceed the water solubility. Additionally the final test solutions were stained from slightly yellow to yellow. Therefore, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae since no toxic effects occur within the range of water solubility.
