Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

3-acetamido-5-amino-4-hydroxybenzenesulphonic acid is 50% biodegradable in water in 38 days (half-life) indicating that it is not persistent (readily biodegradable) in water while in sediment in it is 50% biodegradable in 340 days(8160 hrs) (half-life) indicating that it is persistent(not readily biodegradable) in sediment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in freshwater:
912 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C
Half-life in freshwater sediment:
8 160 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

Based on level III fugacity model the half life period of 3-acetamido-5-amino-4-hydroxybenzenesulphonic acid was estimated. Half life period of 3-acetamido-5-amino-4-hydroxybenzenesulphonic acid in water was observed to be 38 days while in sediment it is 340 days. From these half life values it is concluded that 3-acetamido-5-amino-4-hydroxybenzenesulphonic acid is readily biodegradable (non persistent) in water where as it is non biodegradable (persistent) in sediment.

However it has been observed that 3-acetamido-5-amino-4-hydroxybenzenesulphonic acid does not diffuse in the sediment medium since its percentage in the sediment medium is reported to be 0% and hence persistence in the sediment medium is not likely to be critical
