Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Conclusion on classification

Classification related key information

Log Kow:           -0.24 (EU method A.8)

Water solubility:  9.8 g/L (EU method A.6)

Biodegradation:   0 % in 28 days (OECD 301A)

BCF:                Based on the very low log Pow (-0.24) and molecular properties the substance is not expected to accumulate in organisms. This is confirmed by a valid QSAR calculations using BCFBAF v3.01, which showed BCF values of 0.9534 L/kg (Arnot & Gobas mid trophic, including biotransformation) and OASIS Catalogic base-line model v.04.11, which predicted a BCF of 4.57 L/kg. As well as a BMF value of 0.0334 experimentally determined for a structurally similar benzotriazole derivate.

Aquatic acute toxicity:

For fish: LC50 (96h)         = 420 mg/L (OECD 203)

For algae: EC50 (72h)       = 34 mg/L (OECD 201)

For crustacea: EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/L (OECD 202)

Aquatic chronic toxicity:

For fish: no data

For algae: NOEC (72h)       = 3.4 mg/L (OECD 201)

For crustacea: no data

Classification according to CLP

Based on the data above, Sodium-3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-5-sec-butyl-4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate (CAS 92484-48-5) is not rapidly biodegradable. Acute aquatic toxicity was observed for algae [EC50(72h) = 34 mg/L] and fish [LC50(96h) = 420 mg/L]. Valid chronic data are only available for algae [NOEC(72h) = 3.4 mg/L]. Therefore, the test substance needs to be classified and labelled as Aquatic Chronic 3 according to the 2nd ATP of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).
