Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The toxicity of (3-(3-isopropenylphenyl)butanal) to algae was estimated to give a 72 hour EC50 of 11 mg/L based on based on read-across from an appropriate analogue substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
11 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.2 mg/L

Additional information

An appropriate structural analogue, 3-(3-isopropylphenyl)butanal (tradename Florhydral), has been tested for toxicity to aquatic algae. The study was performed in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 201 and EU Method C.3. The study was performed in line with GLP and reported to a high standard. In accordance with Klimisch (1997), the study was assigned a reliability score of 2 on the basis that the endpoint was being addressed with read-across. The 72 hour EC50 was determined to be 11 mg/L (based on growth rate) with 95% confidence limits of 7.4 -20 mg/L.

The read-across is considered to be suitable based on the structural and 'mechanistic action' similarities between the target substance (3-(3-isopropenylphenyl)butanal) and source substance (3-(3-isopropylphenyl)butanal) and their similar physico-chemical and ecotoxicological properties.
