Description of key information

The freshwater algae 72-hr EC50 for the reaction product Marlon ARL is 72 mg/L based on growth rate according to a 1993 OECD 201 Guideline study conducted under GLP. The corresponding NOEC is 1.5 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
72 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.5 mg/L

Additional information

There are several additional key and supporting studies for the two read across substances that comprise the reaction product.

The 72-hr EC50 for CAS No. 12068-03-0 sodium toluenesulphonate is 150 mg/L based on growth (NOEC = 40 mg/L) baxed on a 1995 GLP Guideline study. There is one comparable duration study for CAS No. 68411-30-3 sodium 4-undecylbenzenesulfonate and two 96 hour studies with different algal species. The 72-hr EC50 (growth) for Scenedesmus is 47.3 mg/L in a 1992 GLP Guideline study. The 96-hr EC50 (cell density) for Selenastrum is 29 mg/L in a 1986 non-guideline study. The 96-hr EC50 (cell density) for Microcystis is 0.91 mg/L in a 1982 non-guideline study.

There are several additional supporting guideline studies for other hydrotropes and for linear alkylbenzenesulphonate.
