Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There is no aquatic invertebrate toxicity test for "Reaction products of 3-methylbutanal and 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol, distillation overheads, acid-treated, hydrogenated" available. Thus, the hazard assessment is based on both main components of the Reaction products. For 2H-Pyran, tetrahydro-4-methyl-2-(2-methylpropyl)- (CAS 13477-62-8; 30 -80% of the Reaction product) a study of a analog substance (CAS 16409-43-1) has been used. The toxicity of this substance towards Daphnia magna was investigated according to OECD Guideline 202 under GLP conditions (BASF 2008). The calculated 48h-EC50 was 33.2 mg/l (nominal).

For the second main component 2H-pyran-4 -ol (CAS 63500-71-0; 10 -60% of reaction product) a

guideline study on the acute toxicity to Daphnia magna was performed according to OECD guideline 202 and an EC50 of ca. 320 mg/l was detected. The animals were exposed to the substance for 48 hours in a static test system (Unilever Research UK, 1996).

Based on the assessment of both main components, the toxicity to aquatic invertebrates of "Reaction products of 3-methylbutanal and 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol, distillation overheads, acid-treated, hydrogenated" is considered to be 33.2 mg/L as a worst-case assumption.
