Description of key information

Long-term toxicity testing with aquatic invertebrates is scientifically not justified.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

For silicon orthophosphate no chronic aquatic toxicity data are available and consequently, no experimental NOEC value can be derived. However, due to the known inherent physico-chemical properties, absence of acute toxic effects in three trophic levels as well as the ubiquitous presence of silica/silicates and phosphates in the environment, there is no evidence of harmful long-term effects arising from exposure to synthetic silicon orthophosphate. Therefore, and with respect to animal welfare, long-term testing with aquatic invertebrates is scientifically not justified in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex IX, section 9.1.
