Reference substance:
1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl peroxyneodecanoate
This additive is considered relevant for the classification and labelling of the substance
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence

Due to a combination of the following factors: chemical reactivity, rapid hydrolysis, thermal degradation and inherent biodegradability it can be concluded that 1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutylperoxyneodecanoate is not persistent.

Bioaccumulation

1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutylperoxyneodecanoate does have properties that suggest a potential for bioaccumulation as indicated by the high Log Kow measurement. However mitigating factors such as the rapid hydrolysis, temperature instability, chemical reactivity and inherent biodegradability all demonstrate that bioaccumulation is unlikely to be able to occur. Furthermore the Log Kow estimation of the more persistent main degredation product ( 2,2,4 -trimethyl pentan -2 -ol) is 2.62. Indicating also low potential for accumulation via degradation products.

Toxicity

The aquatic toxicity data for1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutylperoxyneodecanoate does not result in a classification for aquatic toxicity. In addition 1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutylperoxyneodecanoate has not been classified as Carcinogenic,Mutagenic or Reprotoxic. It has also not been assigned any of the following : T,R48,XN,R48 or STOT RE classifications. 1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutylperoxyneodecanoate is therefore not considered to meet any of the PBT toxicity criteria. Review required should more chronic toxicity data become available.
