Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The molecule has no chemical groups that are associated with explosive properties.

However, furan may form explosive peroxides in the absence of inhibitors (Akron 2009, as cited in NTP 2011). Similarly, in HSDB, furan was reported to have a potential to form moderate explosion hazard when explosed to flame. In inadequate ventilated areas, it is easy to obtain explosive concentrations of the vapour because the boiling point of furan is 32°C (Lewis 2004).
