Short term tests with species of 3 trophic levels are available for 1-N-butylpyridinium heptachlorodialuminate (CAS 67226-45-3). The test material was known to react violently on contact with water forming N-butylpyridinium chloride, hydrochloric acid and alumina. The study was therefore mainly performed on the test material degradation products and not the parent test material. Algae turned out to be the most sensitive species revealing an ErC50 (96h) of 7.5 mg/L. Short term effects of the substance towards fish and daphnia were an LC50 (96h) of >100 mg/L and an EC50 (48h) of 10 mg/L, respectively. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated due to anEC50 of 430 mg/L and a NOEC of 100 mg/L.
