Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2013-03-22 to 2013-03-25
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
signed, 2011-04-11
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -80 °C

Pre Test

No complete solidification was observed at all temperatures; therefore, no main study could be performed

Room Temperature

5°C

-20°C

-80°C

Viscous and gluey

More viscous and sticky

Sticky, high viscous liquid

Partially crystalline but still sticky

As the test item was still sticky at -80 °C, the test item was not completely solidified. A melting point or melting range of the test item VP 112/18 could not be determined, as the test item is not completely solidified at – 80 °C and no main study was carried out. Therefore, the melting point is stated as < – 80 °C (< 193.15 K).

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.2, Column 2, the determination of the melting point does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20 °C.

No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome. Therefore, the result of the study is considered valid.

Conclusions:
A melting point or melting range of the test item VP 112/18 could not be determined, as the test item is not completely solidified at – 80 °C and no main study was carried out. Therefore, the melting point is stated as < – 80 °C (< 193.15 K).

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.2, Column 2, the determination of the melting point does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20 °C.

Description of key information

Naphthenic acids, zinc salts, basic has a melting point < - 80 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
-80 °C

Additional information

A melting point or melting range of naphthenic acids, zinc salts, basic could not be determined, as it is not completely solidified at – 80 °C and no main study was carried out. Therefore, the melting point is stated as < - 80 °C.
