Description of key information

There are two studies presented for acute toxicity to the freshwater algae P. subcapitata (formerly S. capricornutum) by Boeri (2001) and De Roode (2003). Both of these studies were considered to be reliable. An EC50 (growth rate) was only estimated by Boeri (2001) as no growth inhibition was seen in the study by De Roode (2003) and was 800 mg/L. The same study determined the NOEC to be 250 mg/L. No data on marine species are available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
800 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
250 mg/L

Additional information

Study Results

Boeri (2001) - P. subcapitata: EC50 = 800 mg/L (NOEC = 250 mg/L)

De Roode (2001) - P. subcapitata: EC50 = >100 mg/L
