Description of key information
Two short-term toxicity tests were conducted with the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) exposed to 1,2-dichloropropane under flow-through conditions, in general accordance to standard methods, and resulted in 96-hour LC50 values of 127 and 140 mg/L for a geometric mean 96-hour LC50 value of 133 mg/L..

The 1,2 -dichloropropane studies by USEPA (1984) and Geiger et al. (1985) were selected as the key freshwater fish studies because both were conducted with under flow-through conditions with measured confirmation of doses and in general accordance with standard methods. Since both tests were conducted with the same test species (fathead minnow) and presented similar toxicity values (140 and 127 mg/L, respectively), the geometric mean of these two 96 -hour LC50 values of 133 mg/L will be used to reflect the toxicity of this test substance to freshwater fish.
The remaining 5 supporting studies were not considered key studies because either the test system was unsuitable (e.g. static test) or insufficient information was available for assessing their reliability. These tests were conducted with various fish species (fathead minnow, bluegill, dab, guppy, tidal silverside) and reported 96 -hour LC50 values ranging from 61 -320 mg/L; one test had a 7 -day LC50 values of 116 mg/L.
