Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The following key information is available to evaluate the aquatic toxicity of renewable hydrocarbons of wood origin (diesel type fraction):

Aquatic toxicity:

48-h EL50 (immobilisation) D. magna, 68 mg/l with 95% CI of 49 – 94 mg/l (OECD 202; WoE), read-across data from fossil diesel fuel

72-h EL50 (growth rate) Desmodesmus subspicatus, >100 mg/l (OECD 201, GLP, key study)

96-h LL50 (mortality) Oncorhynchus mykiss, 21 mg/l with 95% CI of 12 - 40 mg/l (OECD 203, WoE), read-across data from fossil diesel fuel

3 h EL10 (respiratory inhibition of activated sludge), 39.25 mg/l (OECD 209; GLP, key study)

Because of poor water solubility and complex structure of UVCB substances, the studies have been conducted for the substance itself and surrogate substances (fossil diesel fuels in the category of vacuum gas oils, hydrocracked gas oils and distillate fuels) based on the water accommodate fractions (WAF). Based on the study results on daphnids and algae determined for the renewable hydrocarbons of wood origin, no toxicity occurred up to the maximum test concentration of 1000 mg/l (daphnids) and 100 mg/l (algae), and in both studies stimulation effect was observed. Stimulation effect was also observed in activated sludge respiratory study.
