General information

Name:
Self-classification of renewable hydrocarbons (diesel type fraction)
Status:
67/548/EEC self classification
Remarks:
Classification is conducted based on the experimental data on the substance and the read-across data on similar fossil diesel fuels taken into account also the harmonized classification entries of fossil fuels and the harmonised C&L of the critical constituents in the substance. In case there is no adequate data on the substance or the surrogate substances, the hazard is based on the maximum concentration of the relevant constituents: Fossil diesel fuels have harmonized classification entries in CLP Annex VI (Carc Cat 2 H351 in accordance with 1272/2008, and Carc Cat 3 in accordance with Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC). This harmonized C&L for fossil fuels is due to the carcinogenic polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The PAH analysis showed that only carcinogenic PAH detected in the target UVCB substance was naphthalene. However, the concentration of naphthalene was 0.0015% (w/w) and thus, based on the CLP mixture rules no carcinogenicity classification is warranted for the substance.
