Description of key information

Toxicity to terrestrial plants: Key studies: Read-across from trichloroacetic acid. The EC50 value (2 weeks) of trichloroacetic acid for Avena sativa in a loam sand soil culture was 4.6 mg/kg soil dw. The NOEC value was 1 mg/kg. (test method acccording to OECD guideline 208).
With sodium trichloroacetate, ED50 values of 100 ± 9.1 and 12 mg/L nutrient solution were calculated from the 50% reduction of the total biomass (excluding the roots) and the seed mass, respectively (total life-cycle of the plant). Test method was according to the German guideline: Biologische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig, Germany, March 1984.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Short-term EC50 or LC50 for terrestrial plants:
5.22 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

Key studies: Read-across from trichloroacetic acid: Test method according to OECD guideline 208. The EC50 value of trichloroacetic acid for Avena sativa in a loam sand soil culture was 4.6 mg/kg soil dw. The NOEC value was 1 mg/kg.

Based on the molecular weights, the EC50 for sodium trichloroacetate would be 5.22 mg/kg soil dw.

Another study with sodium trichloroacetate shows ED50 values of 100 ± 9.1 and 12 mg/L nutrient solution calculated from the 50% reduction of the total biomass (excluding the roots) and the seed mass, respectively (total life-cycle of the plant). Test method was according to the German guideline: Biologische Bundesanstalt, Braunschweig, Germany, March 1984.
