Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish:

In an acute toxicity limit test according to OECD guideline 203, the LD50 of the test substance was > 100 mg/L (BASF SE, 2008a).

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

In an acute toxicity limit test according to OECD guideline 202, the LD50 of the test substance was > 100 mg/L (BASF SE, 2008b).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

In a limit test according to OECD guideline 201, the test substance showed no growth inhibitoy effect (EC50 > 100 mg/L) (BASF SE, 2008c).

Toxicity to microorganisms:

The effect of the test substance on oxygen consumption of microorganisms was performed according to OECD guideline 209 (BASF SE, 2009). No inhibitory effect on the respiration rate of activated sludge was observed (NOEC > 1000 mg/L).

Additional information

Acute tests investigating the acute toxicity of the substance to aquatic organisms of three trophic levels are available: freshwater fish (BASF SE, 2008a), aquatic invertebrates (BASF SE, 2008b), algae (BASF SE, 2008c). The tests were performed with a saturated solution prepared according to OECD guideline 23. In all cases no toxic effect were observed in the range of the water solubility of the test substance. For all three trophic levels LC/EC50 values > 100 mg/L based on the nominal concentration were determined. Due to the low water solubility of the substance an analytical dose verification was not performed. Based on the respiration rate of activated sludge an EC50 >1000 mg/L was recorded (BASF SE, 2009).
