Method

The explosive properties were predicted using a screening procedure designed to be compatible with Method A14 Explosive Properties of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

Procedure

A thermogram of an aliquot (0.0051g) of the test item was obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) using the following parameters:

Temperature program    :    20 to 500°C at 5°C/min
Atmosphere             :      air (static)

The thermogram was assessed for any sharp exotherms which indicated exothermic decomposition energy of more than 500 J/g

Conclusion

Based on the thermal behaviour of the test item, the result for the explosive properties was predicted negative.

Description of key information

The explosivity of the test substance was predicted to be negative in a GLP compliant study using a Differential Scanning Calorimetry analysis compatible with EC test method A.14 as screening procedure (Atwal et al., 2010).
