Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

There are no data available for the ready biodegradability of Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues (CAS No. 90622-40-5). In order to fulfil the standard information requirements set out in Annex VII, 9.2, in accordance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 a read-across to the structurally related substance Alcohols, lanolin (CAS 8027-33-6) was conducted. This study was performed according to a standard guideline and GLP and is considered to be reliable. A biodegradation rate of 39% in 28 days was determined. Therefore, persistence of this substance in the environment cannot be excluded.

The degradation via abiotic hydrolysis is not considered to be a relevant degradation pathway in the environment since the substance is highly insoluble in water (< 0.1 mg/L). The adsorption potential for the main components of Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues is high (log Koc > 5, KOCWIN v2.00). Hence, soil and sediment are expected to be the main targets for environmental distribution.

Furthermore, it can be concluded that the bioaccumulation potential of Alcohols, lanolin, distn. residues is negligible since the low water solubility (< 0.1 mg/L) and high adsorption potential (log Koc > 5) reduce the availability of the substance in water. Additionally, the components of the substance are expected to be metabolized if absorbed by organisms.
