Remarks on result:
other: The surface tension result is corrected for water calibration and ring dimensions (Harkins-Jordan). The solution age was 5 minutes for test No 1 and 10 minutes for test No 2.

Calibration:

The measured value of the surface tension of water: 68.0 mN/m

EC standard reading for surface tension of water: 72.75 mN/m

Calibration factor is: 72.75/68.0 = 1.07

The calibration factor is determined by measuring the surface tension of water and comparing the value obtained in literature. The corrected value is taken from a table compiled on the basis of the Harkins-Jordan correction.

The duplicate runs provided identical results.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of the substance was determined to be 57.8 mN/m at a test concentration of 1 g/L and at 20 °C. The substance is concluded to be capable of reducing the surface tension of water and is thus considered as a surfac active substance (surface tension <60 mN/m).

The surface tension of the substance was determined in a GLP study according to test method EC A.5, to be 57.8 mN/m at a test concentration of 1 g/L and at 20 °C, following the ring method (Younis S, 2012).
