The fastest burning 60% barium nitrate /cellulose mixture from the extended test produced a maximum burning rate of 1.98 mm/s. The fastest burning test substance/cellulose mixture from the extended test containing 10% test substance produced a burning rate of 0.95 mm/s. The test substance /cellulose mixtures burned slower than the barium nitrate/cellulose mixtures and therefore MCA is considered not to be oxidising.

Reproducibility criteria of not more than 10% differences in burning rate from the arithmetric mean for the extended test has not been met in each case. The deviation from the 10% difference from the arithmetric mean has been caused by one outlier for the 20% mixtures and one outlier for the 30% mixtures. This is not considered to effect the validity of the results as all the test substance/cellulose mixtures burned significantly slower than the barium nitrate mixtures.
