Description of key information

The toxicity of cetrimonium bromide to terrestrial plants is estimated with an EC50 value of 0.2 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Effect of cetrimonium bromide on growth of duckweed, Spirodela oligorhiza was reported. The tested species is a freshwater plant, but a monocot angiosperm, and therefore physiologically very similar to the standard terrestrial plant species used in toxicity assays, such as wheat and barley. Cetrimonium bromide shows a clear toxic effect, observed as inhibition of growth of the freshwater plant Spirodela oligorhiza. EC50 after 11 days is estimated to 0.2 mg/L.
