Description of key information

non flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The test was performed on a structural analogue substance, according to internationally accepted testing method A.10. The similar substance did not catch fire. The substance did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore burning rate test did not need to be performed.

On the basis of the structural analytical analogy, it is expected that Direct Red 079 would have the same behaviour and thus is expected to be NON flammable. Furthermore evidences connected to the long experience in handling of the substance confirms that no flammable properties have never been observed and reported up to now in the usual conditions of production, stock, transport and use.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008), 2.7 section, flammable solids, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2.2 mm/s.

The flammability assessment was based on the read across approach; Direct Red 023 did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore even the Direct Red 079 is expected to be non flammable.

In conclusion, according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) Direct Red 079 is classified as NON flammable.
