Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Not readily biodegradable: 0% (TOC) in 28 days, 0 - 5% (GC) in 28 days (equivalent to OECD TG 301C)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

There is one reliable study on biodegradation of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol. Biodegradation of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol by an activated sludge in 28 days was tested according to national standard (equivalent to OECD TG 301C). Because the test substance is volatile substance and has a reactivity with the soda lime, the measurement of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) is impossible.

The determination by the TOC and GC methods showed 0% and 5% degradation of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol, respectively. Therefore 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol is not considered readily biodegradable under the test condition.
