Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dodecene, hydroformylation products, high-boiling, is acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The effects of Dodecene, hydroformylation products, high-boiling on acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was investigated in a GLP-study according to the OECD guideline 202. Since the test substance is a mixture that is poorly soluble in water the study was performed according to the OECD guidance document 23 and the EC50 of 45.5 mg/L (nominal) for Daphnia magna was determined in a water accommodated fraction of the test substance [BASF SE 2009]. The lower EC50 (= 1.2 mg/L nominal, Daphnia magna) of an additional acute non-GLP study according to DIN 38412 was not used for assessment, since the test was conducted with the solvent Cremophor [BASF AG 1990]. In the OECD guidance document 23 it is laid down, that solvents are not appropriate for mixtures where the use of the solvent can give preferential dissolution of one or more components and thereby affect the toxicity.
