Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Abiotic degradation

3-(Triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile hydrolyses rapidly (half-life 6.5 hours at pH 7 and 20°C, measured). A half-life of 0.9 days for reaction with hydroxyl radicals in air has been calculated for 3-(triethoxysilyl)propiononitrile. However, reaction with water vapour, rather than photolysis, may be the primary degradation process in air.

The initial hydrolysis products are expected to be 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propiononitrile and ethanol.

Biotic degradation

A reliable ready biodegradation test has been read-across from an analogous substance which indicates that it is not readily biodegradable, and no significant biodegradation in water of the hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propiononitrile, is expected.
