Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no studies investigating the long-term toxicity of Bis(2-octyldodecyl) azelate (CAS 897626-46-9) to aquatic invertebrates are available for this endpoint, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related category member Bis(2-ethylhexyl) azelate (CAS 103-24-2) was conducted. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance within this category was used.

Long term toxicity of Bis(2-ethylhexyl) azelate was investigated by the Japanese authorities according to OECD 211 under semi static conditions using Daphnia magna as a test organism (MOE, 2004). A 0.1 mg/L test solution was prepared by diluting a 1000 mg/L stock solution prepared using HCO-40 as vehicle. The test concentration was measured to be 0.0637 mg/L. No effects on parent animal mortality and reproduction were observed throughout the 21 d test period of the limit test. Hence, the 21 d-NOEC is determined to be > 0.0637 mg/L which is the water solubility of the test substance under test conditions.

Due to the structural and property similarities with the tested category member Bis(2 ethylhexyl) azelate (CAS 103-24-2) this result is also applicable to read across to Bis(2-octyldodecyl) azelate (CAS 897626-46-9).
