Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

If swallowed:

Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. Get immediate medical attention.

Eye Contact:

Check for and remove any contact lenses. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Cold water may be used. Get medical attention.

Skin Contact:

In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. Cold water may be used. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. Get immediate medical attention.

Inhalation:

If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.

Serious Inhalation:

Evacuate the victim to a safe area as soon as possible. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If the victim is not breathing, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Use: Dry powder, Foam, Water spray, Carbon dioxide (C02)

Polymerization is exothermic and can degenerate into an uncontrolled reaction

Thermal decomposition giving toxic products: Cyanides, Nitrogen oxides

Accidental release measures

Small Spill: Use appropriate tools to place the spilled solid in a convenient waste disposal container.

Large Spill: Stop leak if without risk. Do not get water inside container. Do not touch spilled material. Use water spray to reduce vapours. Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas. Dike if needed. Eliminate all ignition sources. Call for assistance on disposal. Be careful that the product is not present at an air concentration above the Occupationa Exposure Limit.

Handling and storage

Precautions:

Keep locked up and away from heat and sources of ignition. Empty containers pose a fire risk; evaporate the residue under a fume hood. Ground all equipment containing material. Do not ingest. Do not breathe dust. Wear suitable protective clothing. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. If ingested, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or the label. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from incompatible material such as oxidizing agents, acids, alkalis, moisture.

Storage:

Light sensitive. Store in light-resistant containers. Keep container tightly closed. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not store above 23°C (73.4°F). Preferably store in a refrigerator.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Strict containment constantly during use. Sampling must be designed to prevent emissions and losses. Equipment and operations must avoid or minimize emissions of mists or vapour, e.g. use loops, vapour recovery and/or scrubbers on storage tank ventilation .

The efficiency and effectiveness of the containment must be checked by regular measurements, control of equipment, etc. Measure concentrations in the workplace, the ambient air and in receiving waters to confirm the application of strictly controlled conditions. The measured concentrations must always be below the detection limit or below the accepted safety levels.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable when properly inhibited. Polymerization may occur at elevated temperatures or upon depletion of inhibitor.

Conditions to Avoid: Avoid temperature extremes. Avoid static discharges and sources of ignition.

Incompatibility: Polymerization initiators, strong oxidizing or reducing agents, and oxygen scavengers.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: No decomposition expected under normal storage conditions.

Possibility of Hazardous Reactions: May polymerize if inhibitor is depleted

Disposal considerations

Employees engaged in disposal should be thoroughly trained in effective procedures and protected from any possibility to skin or eye contact or inhalation.

Waste and containers can be a hazard. Do not let such waste material into municipal waste treatment or landfill operations. Containers must be rinsed thoroughly and then can be disposed by burning in an approved industrial incinerator or buried in an approved landfill. Return all residual substance to process or send to incineration
