Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on read across to the corresponding substance with sodium as cationic part instead of potassium.

Due to decomposition at temperatures > 200°C, the boiling point could not be determined.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the Klimisch 1 key study, the boiling point of Docusate Sodium was determined experimentally according to EU method A.2. The results obtained in TGA analysis demonstrated that Docusate Sodium decomposes at pressure of 984 hPa with noticeable weight loss above 200 °C before boiling and evaporating.

Column 2 of REACH Annex VII section 7.3 states that the boiling point does not need to be measured "for solids which either melt above 300°C or decompose before boiling." Since Docusate Sodium decomposes before reaching the boiling point, the boiling point was not determined.

The experiment demonstrated that the boiling point is > 200°C. For the risk assessment a worst case value of 200 °C will be used.
