Description of key information

Key value for freshwater has been selected from Blom study and the Seeland publication showing the lowest available effect concentration. Key values for marine water have been taken from study with analogue Tolyltriazole.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
75 mg/L
EC50 for marine water algae:
53 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.18 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water algae:
30 mg/L

Additional information

Two freshwater tests with two different green algae species exposed to the analogue 1H-Benzotriazole are available. Key values for the chemical safety assessment are selected from both OECD 201 guideline studies as the acute effect value has been calculated in the Blom study only while the publication of Seeland show the lower EC10 effect concentration. However, both values show a moderate toxicity towards freshwater algae. Available algal data on sodium benzotriazolate resulted in a 72 hour EC50 of 150 mg/L and 72 h NOEC of 32 mg/L

In addition, two tests with marine water exposing Skeletonema costatum to the analogues Tolyltriazole and sodium tolyltriazolate are available showing a moderate toxicity.
