Description of key information
Key value for freshwater was selected by most sensitive value for sodium benzotriazole. [Acute Toxicity of 3DT199 to Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss); 2007]
Key value for marine environment was selected from most sensitive value for sodium benzotriazole in a saltwater study for Inland Silversides [Acute toxicity of 73199 to Inland Silversides (Menidia beryllina) and Mysids (Mysidpsis bahia) 2003]
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Fresh water fish
Fresh water fish
- Effect concentration:
- 14.84 mg/L
Marine water fish
Marine water fish
- Effect concentration:
- 30.75 mg/L
Additional information
Several studies on toxicological effects in different fish species are available. All studies were performed according to national or international guidelines showing a moderate toxicity to fish. The most sensitive 96 hour LC50 in freshwater species (Rainbow trout; Oncorhynchus mykiss) derived for sodium benzotriazole was 14.84 mg/L (expressed as active ingredient). One short-term freshwater study with Brachydanio rerio has been available for benzotriazole showing an effect value LC50 more than 100 mg/L.
The most sensitive value for sodium benzotriazole in a saltwater study with Inland Silversides was a 96 hour LC50 of 30.75 mg/L (expressed as active ingredient). Available marine water study from read-across with analogue Tolyltriazole has indicated moderate toxicity towards fishes, too.
