Additional information

Tertiary butyl acetate is miscible in water and will partition mainly to the atmospheric compartment. Some volatilisation to the atmosphere from bodies of water can be anticipated. Fugacity modeling suggests that tertiary butyl acetate will partition mainly to the air. The EQC (Equilibrium criterion) evaluative model (a combined Level I, II and III multimedia fugacity model) suggests that tertiary butyl acetate will mainly partition to air (97%). This is supported by the QSAR level III fugacity modelling which also suggests that 97.5% tertiary butyl acetate will partition to air. This modelling is supported by experimental data: tests performed at ambient laboratory temperature and using GC analysis of aqueous solutions showed 65-77% loss of test substance via volatilisation from water over 48h at 95-955 mg/l, and total or near-total total loss over 96h at 1070 mg/l.
