Additional information

Propylene oxide and/or its metabolites are readily absorbed through the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts and widely distributed to the major organs. Studies in animals have suggested that clearance from the blood may be limited at higher concentrations of exposure, indicating saturation of metabolism. Metabolism involves conjugation with glutathione or hydrolysis to epoxide hydrolase. Excretion of propylene oxide and its metabolites is expected to be primarily via urine and expired air. Propylene oxide binds to, or reacts with, tissues and nucleic acids in vitro and in vivo.
