Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

From an examination of the chemical structure of NMDA, it was confirmed that it did not contain oxygen, chlorine or fluorine. Consequently, the test substance would not be expected to possess oxidising properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

It is possible to predict the oxidising potential of a molecule by analogy with existing compounds and therefore it is possible to examine the chemical structure of a substance and ascertain whether or not there are any groups present that are associated with oxidising properties. For this purpose a screening procedure has been published in Appendix 6 of the United Nations ‘Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria’. For organic compounds, the substance does not possess oxidising properties if it does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine. If these atoms are present, then the substance does not possess oxidising properties if the atoms are chemically bonded only to carbon and hydrogen.
