Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

Currently, very limited information is available in the literature concerning the NF3 concentration - dose response relationships in humans. The concentration of MetHb in the blood at any time will depend on several factors. When in equilibrium with ambient air the MetHb content of the blood will depend mainly on the concentrations of inspired NF3 and O2. If equilibrium cannot be achieved, the MetHb concentrations will also depend on the duration of exposure, ventilation (rate and volume) and the MetHb originally present before inhalation of contaminated air. Whilst not reported, the half-time of NF3 disappearance from blood under normal recovery conditions is undoubtedly variable between individuals. As with COHb, the half time can be reduced by inhaling increasing concentrations of O2. Further reductions in the half time can be bought about by the elevation of PO2 to 4 atm which has shown evidence of decreased mortality rates. Furthermore, ivadministration of methylene blue (1-2 mg/kg) usually results in a dramatic response.
