Description of key information

No toxic effects on aquatic algae. EC50 (96 h): > 500 mg/L for Scenedesmus subspicatus (DIN 38412, part 9)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no studies on algal toxicity are directly available for 6-methyl-2-oxoperhydropyrimidin-4-yl urea (CAS No. 1129-42-6), the assessment of algal toxicity was based on studies conducted with a structurally similar analogue substance, for which data is available, ANALOGUE N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9) as part of a read across approach. This is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of substance and read across approach. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13.

The short-term toxicity of N,N''-(isobutylidene)diurea (CAS No 6104-30-9) was tested using Desmodesmus subspicatus (cited as: Scenedesmus subspicatus) as test organisms (BASF AG, 1987). In the test conducted in compliance with DIN 38412, part 9 the algae were exposed to the test substance for 96 hours. Based on the growth rate of algae an EC50 > 500 mg/L was determined. The effect concentration is based on the nominal test concentration.
