Endpoint:
flash point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Remarks:
Database with recommended values, approved for substance hazard assessments and subject to peer review.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Experimental measurement (data is taken from a secondary source, information about the methodology is not available)
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
closed cup
Flash point:
71 °C
Atm. press.:
1 013 mBar
Remarks on result:
other: atmospheric pressure was assumed
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
A flash point value of 71°C at atmospheric pressure is reported in a handbook which has been subject to peer-review and in which is recommended for the use of chemical safety assessments by the PTB Germany. The result is considered to be reliable

Description of key information

Flash point: 71°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
71 °C

Additional information

In 2010 the German Physical Standards Institute (PTB) has issued a recommended flash point for 3 -methoxy-3 -methyl-butan-1 -ol with the result FP = 71°C measured with closed cup apparatus, which was used as key study.

Other flashpoints are cited in the secondary literature range from: +68°C (MSDS Kuraray (2004)) to +71°C (MSDS Sigma Aldrich (2004)).
