Phthalic acid is not classified as PBT or vPvB. Phthalic acid is readily and inherently biodegradable and thus not persistent in the environment. Phthalic acid is not bioaccumulative since the calculated accumulation factor is 3.16 kg/L and thus does not point to accumulation of the substance in the environment. Phthalic acid is not classed as toxic with the lowest NOEC in a long-term fish study calculated as 10 mg/L. Phthalic acid is not classified as a carcinogen, mutagen nor toxic to reproduction. Thus, phthalic acid is not PBT nor vPvB.
