Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
6.1 Test System
Form:
The mould, which is made of aluminum, has a length of 250 mm and triangular cross
section with an inner height of 10 mm and an inner width of 20 mm. On both sides of the
mould in a longitudinal direction two metal sheets are mounted as lateral limitations, which
project 2 mm beyond the upper edge of the triangular cross section.
Reaction Plate:
a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting plate (floor-tile)
Surrounding Conditions:
The test is performed at room temperature in a laboratory fume hood.
Ignition Source:
flame of a gas burner (blowlamp, with a minimum diameter of 5 mm)

Exposure Time:
until the powder ignites or for a maximum of 2 minutes
Time Measurement:
a stop-watch, able to measure in seconds

6.2 Preparation of the Piles
The test item was loosely filled into a mould. Then the mould was dropped three times from
a height of 2 cm onto a solid surface. The lateral limitations were removed and the excess
substance was scraped off.
A non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting plate was placed on top of the
mould. This was inverted and the mould was removed.

6.3 Preliminary Screening Test
The time of burning over a distance of 200 mm expressed in seconds is measured (if
applicable).
If the test item does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or
smoldering along 200 mm during 4 minutes, the test item should not be considered as highly
flammable and no further testing is required.
If the test item propagates burning of a 200 mm length in less than 4 minutes, the burning
rate test is performed.
The flame from a gas burner was applied to one end of the powder train. The burning of the
pile was observed. The test was performed twice.

6.4 Burning Rate Test
The time of burning over a distance of 100 mm expressed in seconds is measured after the pile
has burned a distance of 80 mm (if applicable). The test is performed 6 times, using a clean
cool plate each time; unless a positive result is observed earlier (reaction time < 45 sec / 100
mm).
Based on the results of the preliminary screening test no burning rate test was required.

6.5 Results and Conclusion
In the flammability preliminary screening test the test item did not ignite. Based on the
results of the preliminary test, no burning rate test was performed.
Therefore the test item should not be considered as highly flammable.
Executive summary:

In the flammability preliminary screening test the test item did not ignite. Based on the
results of the preliminary test, no burning rate test was performed.
Therefore the test item should not be considered as highly flammable

Description of key information

In the flammability preliminary screening test the test item did not ignite. Based on the
results of the preliminary test, no burning rate test was performed.
Therefore the test item should not be considered as highly flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

In the flammability preliminary screening test the test item did not ignite. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no burning rate test was performed. Therefore the test item should not be considered as highly flammable
